The definition of a hydrosol is "a colloidal suspension in water". In other words, an aromatic water with therapeutic properties.

In mass production, hydrosols are the byproduct or left over water from the steam or hydro-distillation of an essential oil.

They are not essential oils mixed in water nor are they flower water, or floral water. They often do not smell the same as the plant, as often they contain a mix of flowers, leaves, bark & fruit. Rose hydrosol is an example of where the hydrosol does not smell strongly of the Rose scent we are familiar with.

Hydrosols contain only 1-2% of the same chemical constituents found in the volatile organic compounds (VOC's) - essential oils, but they also contain the nonvolatile, hydrophilic (water loving) organic components that come from the plant that was distilled. So they contain the therapeutic properties of the plants.

They are wonderful for skin and hair.

So much goodness here!
